Kid Shows

Being a mom means I get to watch a whole bunch of kid shows, whether I want to or not.  PBS is pretty much an automatic go-to channel in my house now.  And with the abundance of kid-friendly TV that I'm watching now, it shouldn't be a surprise that there are soooo many songs to go along with all those shows.

Some constants in our house are:
  • Dinosaur Train
  • Sesame Street
  • Word World
  • Sid the Science Kid
  • Super Why
  • The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That
I'm sure there are more.  I just can't name them all right now.  Which brings me to the next part...

On the other side of that, there are just as many regular shows we watch that the Boy watches, and loves.  Well, usually, it's the theme songs he's interested in, but still.  Shows like Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, and anything with a fun theme song.  Leverage has gotten in there, only because the violence isn't obvious at times, there's little swearing, and who doesn't love Christian Kane and Aldis Hodge?

The constant struggle we have in our house is what is appropriate and what isn't for the Boy to watch.  Usually, stuff that is bloody or full of curse words, or car crashes or overly violent isn't going to be watched when the Boy is awake.  Then there is the question of what can we watch while he is asleep, especially if he's in the same room.  Again, nothing violent or bloody or potentially scary.  The long and short of it is that we watch a lot of TV on dvds, and it's usually the sitcoms that get watched over and over.

What are some of your favorite kid shows?  What won't you let your children watch?  What would you recommend to parents looking for good kids shows?
